I have this theory that any shrimp species can live and breed in neutral parameters with clean water and moderate GH, this is in my 20L, 0/0/0-1, TDS 200, KH 2, GH 6, 78F.

Starter population: 14 PFRs, 10 CBS, 9 Blue Bees, 10 OEBTs, 12 Cardinals, 13 Snow White/Golden Bee, 7 CBS x. TB Misclings, 1 BKK

Shrimp species/variations:
- PFRs (neocaridina heteropoda), whatever parameters
- Blue Bees (paracaridina), ideally 74F 6.6pH
- Crystal Black Shrimp / CBS (caridina cantonensis), ideally 74F 6.4pH
- Mischling (CBS x. Taiwan Bees)
- Black King Kong Taiwan Bee
- Orange Eye Blue Tiger / OEBT (caridina cantonensis), ideally 74F 7pH
- Sulawesi Caridinals (caridina dennerli), ideally 80-82F 8pH

Fish species: CPDs, Blue Emeralds, Boraras, Otocinclus, Corydoras Pygmaeus

(Also 5 fish species: corydoras pygmaeus, celestial pearl danios, emerald dwarf rasboras, mosquito rasboras, otocinclus)

OEBT, CBS, Blue Bees may interbreed.

Day 0: got the blue bees, cardinals, oebt, dumped them into the tank. 0 Deaths.

Day 1: 1 adult cardinal died from a failed molt I left it in to be eaten by a couple CBS. Nothing in tank is wasted!

Day 2: all is well, oebts roaming around the tank, cardinals holed up under a rock, but comes out to graze and eat throughout the night, one seems to prefer the lucky bamboo next to the aerator.

Day 3: counted all 11 this evening, 10 at the rock, 1 likes to roam around the tank. I added fish, 7x boraras brigattae and 4x emerald dwarf rasboras (danios) similar to cpds, some warned me they ate shrimp but looks fine so far, overfed flakes this evening, tank is snowing flakes.

Day 4: still count 11, about 2-3 are roaming around the tank leisurely now, 1 on the other side of the tank, 2 still close to the rock. New fish seem to be shrimp friendly, still keeping an eye out on the emeralds, so far behavior similar to CPDs, just much shyer.

Day 8: past the 1 week mark, all 11 remaining still alive and getting bigger, blue bees berried, CBS berried!

Day 14: Cardinals and OEBTs are noticeably bigger. I think all my blue bee females are berried. Cardinals moved bases, from the smaller rock formation to the two larger ones. Socially they have a pack structure--always sticking together.

Day 21: did something pretty stupid, removed all the gravel and upset dirt everywhere, I think humic acid/traces I dosed earlier dissolved and dropped pH to 6. I only spot 7 Cardinals altogether under the rock. Not sure if the other 4 are still around somewhere. OEBTs doing very well, they are the first to food when I drop it into the tank.

Day 30: added 1 BKK; 7 CBS x TB mischlings; and 13 Snow White / Golden Bees (from CRS). Still count 8 cardinals. All OEBTs seem alive. PFRs keep popping out babies. Old CBS still berried. Blue bees still berried.

Started a separate Cardinal thread to document them - shrimpery.com/forum/sulawesi-caridinas/21-cardinal-tales. Very interesting species, behaviorally different than neos and cantonensis.

That's a lot of variety! The cardinals look amazing, only from one place in the world huh?

I think they get to about 1", not sure if mine has stopped growing yet.

Dropped pH to 6 on accident in the tank :(
