FYI: calcium oxalate may have harmful effects on inverts, I found a study on effects of lower growth and breeding on insects that consume plants heavy in calcium oxalate: www.plantphysiol.org/content/141/1/188.full

Not sure if the study would correlate 1:1 to invertebrates, but do remove rotting plant matter with calcium oxalate content from the water, live plants are fine.

Includes:
- Lucky Bamboo (or any draecaena species)
- Peace Lily
- Water Hyacinth

Too much of this stuff also causes kidney stones in humans, found in high concentrations in: spinach, rhubarb, beet greens, okra, parsley, leeks and collard greens, also large # of fruits, blackberries etc.

But I think like most things limited doses is fine, or even beneficial. Too much is another story.
